Make the ridge better

Tell us what you'd join in on. When enough neighbors pick the same thing, we'll set it up. Your name and unit also put you on the resident roster.

What should neighbors team up on?
Pick any you'd join in on

Give at least one. Both help, since resident sign-in will work with either.

Batteries, paint, and electronics

None of these go in the recycling bin. Here's what to do with each, and where to take it.

Coming up

  1. No collections scheduled right now. The Pennsylvania Resources Council posts new dates at prc.org.
Regular batteries Trash is fine
  • AA, AAA, C, D, and 9-volt alkalines go in the regular trash in Pennsylvania.
  • Tape the ends of 9-volts first.
Rechargeable batteries Never in the trash
  • Phone, laptop, power tool, and other lithium batteries start fires in garbage trucks.
  • Tape the ends, or put each one in its own bag.
  • Drop them in the free battery bin by the entrance or service desk.
  • Best Buy doesn't take loose batteries in Pennsylvania.

Paint Depends on the kind
  • Latex paint goes in the trash once it's dry.
  • Leave the lid off to dry it, or stir in kitty litter to speed it up.
  • Oil-based paint, stain, and thinners go to a household chemical collection. The county holds them in spring and summer.

Electronics Never in the trash
  • State law bans TVs, computers, monitors, laptops, tablets, and e-readers from the trash.
  • Best Buy takes most electronics for free, up to 10 items a day.
  • TVs and monitors cost $29.99 each, paid back as a $30 Best Buy gift card in Pennsylvania.
  • The collections above take nearly all of it.
